Portugal
Country profile
In 2007, abortion was legalized up to 10 weeks of pregnancy by a referendum. Since, then, there have been no changes to the law.
Abortion is legal on demand up to 10 weeks, up to 16 weeks in case of rape and 24 weeks in case of deformation or risk of death.
The leaders got inspired by the book “Unplanned” by Abby Johnson and decided that they should bring prayer vigils to Portugal in 2012.
In this first campaign over 1,000 people participated. The prayer vigil in Lisbon is outside the busiest abortuary in the country where Spanish doctors perform a large proportion of the country’s abortions. Hundreds of grace filled encounters have happened from this one vigil.
