Adventures in Post-national Buffer Zone Britain

Sheffield

The Sheffield vigil has moved down the road to a busy intersection, at the bottom of the road of a huge hospital. Strategically, it’s a better location, witnessing thousands of passers-by in the student zone of the city. They have had lots of students approach them, telling them they are writing their dissertation on abortion and buffer zones. Being outside such a large hospital, it has not been possible to reach out to abortion-minded women in the first place, so the vigil has been improved by the buffer zone laws, in terms of standing in a better location. Rachel Wood is doing a great job as the leader and has a stunning personal testimony.

Nottingham

John Edwards is a veteran leader who not only has seen the hospital stop doing abortions but also has been taken to court for his pro-life views. They have a great team in Nottingham and are always looking for more volunteers. They are 150 meters down the road this campaign from the abortion center, but have had some great interactions with the public. A woman berates the vigil volunteers, cussing and sharing our presence in a hostile way on social media, telling us of the hurt of her abortion when she was 14 after she was raped.

Leicester

The Leicester vigil is on a busy road, witnessing to 1,000 people an hour down the road from the town’s only abortion centre in a Doctor’s surgery. A goth lady attacks the vigil, covering volunteers in water, shouting and screaming. Another tattooed woman approaches us to lecture us that she is a Christian but is staunchly in favor of abortion. Today, it seems that those hurt by abortion are responding with wild anger to the presence of a pro-life vigil. The vigil continues!
