Abortion Laws today
In Italy, abortion is legal on demand up to 90th days after conception, and until the fetus is viable, in cases of psycological problems and risk of life to the mother.
How and where vigils began
Modena is the first city to register in Italy, marking a new beginning for the pro-life movement in Italy. Italy is a sleeping Catholic giant. The campaign in Modena sees volunteers praying on a daily basis with their parishes and joining their prayers in unity with those around the world.
As volunteers organize an official vigil, leaders anticipate campaigns will grow and expand throughout the country.

A sleeping catholic giant
Italy started some years ago with 2 vigil locations in San Remo and Bergamo but they were not officially under 40 Days for Life supervision. A bishop and the Provita e Famiglia association were the promoters and main support for these vigils. Campaigns were also held in different dates than those of 40 Days for Life.
Now 40 Days for Life International has a first official vigil in Modena. We hope that it will spread throughout the country.
